Morecambe Music Festival

Well! What can one say... WE STORMED IT.

What a fantastic day. This was the biggest event we have done to date.  We really didn't know what to expect being a Festival.  However everything went into 3 cars and we set off.  It was quite a sight when we got there.  The promenade was full of people, with traffic everywhere. It took about 20 mins to drive the 200yards to the entertainers’ car park on the front, it was about 3.00pm and we could here a Rock Band playing.  When we went to have a look there was about 5000-6000 people on the grass, and the atmosphere was brilliant.

At about 5 o'clock they announced the end of the afternoon session.  Everyone was told about the evening Star Guests... (including The Bee Gees Experience) which was to take place at 7 o'clock. That means a 30min sound check and an hour and a half for pizzas. mmm.... As is happened the pizzas came first, nothing unusual about that, (by the way if your thinking about booking us, pizzas are in the contract).

Our time slot for the sound check was 6.00pm, and when we got there the public area was deserted except for a few people who clearly were waiting for us. (yeh ok). We check all our levels and tried out one of our numbers, by the time we had finish it there must have been 2000 people in front of us.  They came from everywhere. We tried out a few more bits of songs and check all instruments and finished the sound check with about 2500-3000 manic people wanting more.  We told them 7.00pm, don't be late.

I can't explain the feeling of the event; you needed to be there, on that stage.  7.00 o'clock came and we were all ready.  The 5000 people were back, and the evening was drawing in.  It was dusk.  The smoke machine was smoking.  The crowd was restless as we were behind the screens ready to go on.

We made our entrance and the place erupted.  It was like an out of body experience, I can only tell you this from my prospective, but I'm sure we all felt the same.  We finished our opening medley, and continued with Too Much Heaven.  The crowd was going mad, everyone singing, and the people kept coming, and the crowds got bigger, and the lights got brighter as the night closed in, and at that point it wasn't only the smoke machine that was smoking... we were too.

By the time we got half way through, I looked to my right, towards the road to find the whole place was in gridlock.  All the walkways and pavement were now blocked with people, the road was blocked and the traffic at a stand still.  At this point I realised the enormity of the event and I started to get very emotional, my eyes filled and I choke-up, for about 30sec I couldn't sing, I was opening my mouth, but nothing was coming out (thank god I was doing the backing vocals).  Pulling myself together, we went forward into our Saturday Night Fever section and it just got better and better.

We came off to a huge standing ovation, but we expected that, there were no seats.  We left the crowd going mad, having done an extra 15 minutes.  It took us hours to come down from the rafters after that.
